Why this cause?
We “show up” to volunteer in an effort to fight for hunger for third world countries, rally in races to find cures for cancer, and donate to causes that are near and dear to our hearts (i.e., animal shelters, substance abuse, disorders, disease prevention, varying degrees of social injustice and the like).
And those are all good things to support....
But, what about what is going on in our own backyards?
It’s been said that “It all starts in the home,” and that “It takes a village to raise a child.”
However, when it comes to single-parent living, Arizona has one of the highest poverty rates among U.S. states with roughly one in five Arizonans living in poverty and in single-parent dwellings. One can only imagine the daily struggles single mothers face as they try to both parent and provide for their children.
After endless scrutiny, empty promises and doors of opportunity leading to nowhere, single moms feel frustrated in their tireless efforts, condemned for their choices, exiled from stability, isolated and alone, and left with no other option but to forge forward in an attempt to do whatever necessary to get their family to “safe harbor” (leaving little to no room for exploring options let alone social connections).
Our Single Moms Coalition exists to “Help mom warriors find their village…one connection at a time,” whether that is through a resource, service, guidance, or a much-needed friendship to link arms with. And this online community, combined with our local community events, are our way of letting them know that we’re here for them.
But, we can’t do this alone.
If you’re “on the outside looking in,” as either a former single mom, a vendor who can help, or just someone with a compassionate heart who wants to make their dent in the community, there are a handful of ways you can do so…
- Any items purchased at our community events (via one of our premier partner vendors) will go towards our Single Mom Coalition efforts.
- No items speak to you? That’s OK. You can directly “Sponsor a Mom” (see the QR codes located at each station or inquire with our “preferred vendor partners” online) who will benefit from your gift purchase or financial support.
- You can also “Sponsor a Bag” in support of our Annual Christmas Bag Lady Project
- Monetary donations are accepted through our payment portal and/or collected at our registration table during community events (electronic or cash). Funds received are utilized to offset costs for moms in need on a case-by-case basis.
- Have a gift and/or a business you feel would benefit our mom warriors? Shoot us a message on our Contact Page, along with a brief description. We will reach back out to schedule a consult to discuss your potential involvement and contribution towards our ongoing SMC efforts or becoming a preferred partner vendor.
- Just your presence alone (via social media or in-person), speaks in and of itself, as a show of support. Who knows how far your warm smile, kind word, or intimate gesture might go with some of the encounters you engage in today?
Sometimes just showing up and offering a few words of encouragement is all these mom warriors need!
